Yup, a little change in scenery this week.
Our adventure began on Thursday night with a lot of contractions. Friday morning we already had a Dr.'s appointment scheduled where we found out that her contractions were causing effacement. We went home with an Albuterol prescription to calm down the contractions. It worked great for most of the day but by that evening, we made the call to Dr. Rowe and his directions were predictable..."go to the hospital." So, we figured it would be a few hour visit but it soon turned into an overnight stay. Dr. Rowe came by the next morning and saw no real change or dilation and released her. He said that if she starts having contractions again, then she needs to go back to the hospital but this time...bring her bag because she would stay until the babies come. Without budging all weekend from the couch and bed, the occasional contractions reached the magic number and Johnna called Dr. Rowe again. As I am walking toward the airplane to preflight it for an overnight trip to Del Rio, TX, my phone rings and my heart kind of drops when I see Johnna's name pop up on caller ID. I asked myself, is this the call? She was upset because she wasn't excited to spend the rest of her pregnancy in the hospital (which we were hoping would still be a couple of weeks). I called crew scheduling and said I'm sorry I'm calling 30 minutes before departure time but, find a new first officer, my wife is in labor! They said get outta here! Johnna's parents took her to the hospital and she was already in a room when I arrived. They switched her to a bloodpressure medicine called Procardia. It served the same purpose of stopping/slowing down contractions. But, 3 days later, Dr. Rowe once again released us from the hospital satisfied after a certain test that, if negative, is close to a 1 in 1000 chance of having the babies in the next 1-2 weeks. So we're at home now at 34 weeks and 3 days. Johnna is most appreciative to be in her own bed/couch. None of the contractions are painful, but are still coming periodically, which is normal with twins at this stage in the game. The plan is Tuesday (35 weeks), Dr. Rowe will take Johnna off of the medicine and let her go into labor naturally. False Alarm(s)!
